Getting to Secret Cove Hideaway
Map of Sunshine Coast
Location of Secret Cove Hideaway.
Secret Cove Hideaway is located on the Beautiful Sunshine Coast of Canada, on the Sechelt Peninsula in Halfmoon Bay, at Secret Cove Landing, formerly the Jolly Roger Inn, in Secret Cove at 10163 Mercer Road #401. It is approximately a two hour trip from downtown Vancouver, depending on traffic and road conditions.
The Sunshine Coast is located on the mainland but is separated from the city by a ferry trip as there is not a road that comes here. That's part of what makes the Sunshine Coast so special. It's close to the city geographically and a million miles away psychologically. A trip to Secret Cove Hideaway on the Sunshine Coast allows you to see and feel first hand this serene and beautiful area that so many people choose for their holiday getaways. Whether you come by ferry, bus, boat or air, getting to Secret Cove Hideaway is relatively simple and very picturesque, whichever mode of transportation you choose.
If you're coming from Western Canada, via Hope
Follow Highway 1. Cross the Port Mann Bridge, through the connector tunnel in Vancouver, cross the Iron Workers Memorial, Second Narrows Bridge, continue past North Vancouver and West Vancouver until you arrive in Horseshoe Bay to the ferry terminal. Don't take the Whistler exit it is quite a distance before you can turn around. Take the Ferry to LANGDALE, not Naniamo or Bowen Island!
If you're coming from the U.S.
Take the I-5 to the border at Blaine. Cross either at the main, Peace Arch crossing or the truck crossing, which is recommended unless you want to go through downtown Vancouver. To get to the truck crossing, take the last exit before entering Blaine. Once across the border, follow Highway 15, on the Canadian side, up to Highway 1, the TransCanada or freeway, about 25 minutes north. Don't turn off onto 1A or you will go through downtown which will slow you down. Go WEST onto Highway 1 to Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal approximately 30-60 minutes depending on traffic. Make sure to take the Langdale ferry to the Sunshine Coast.
The Sunshine Coast Highway
You will drive off the ferry onto the Sunshine Coast Highway, or Highway 101. This highway runs from Lund, British Columbia, all the way to Chile. Unlike many other roads in mountainous regions, the highway is good for walking, cycling, or driving. It provides travellers with access to the towns and parks in the area, ribboning up the coast with the Georgia Strait flowing on the west. The Sunshine Coast Highway provides an easy method of traveling along one of the sunniest parts of British Columbia.Beaches, towns, ferries, and parks are all accessible from the Sunshine Coast Highway. At Gibson's Landing, fans of the television show, "The Beach Combers," can relive the past at Molly's Reach Restaurant. The Roberts Creek Provincial Park is an excellent spot for a picnic lunch. Fishing and scuba diving are popular throughout the Sunshine Coast. Others may be more interested in taking a side trip to hike to the Skookumchuck Narrows and view the fast running water. Beyond our south end of the Sunshine Coast is Jervis Inlet, which divides the Sunshine Coast in two, another ferry will take you to the north Sunshine Coast and the end of highway 101 at Lund. Beyond that is the wide fiord of Desolation Sound. Beautiful scenery, easy driving conditions, and a multitude of activities along the way make the Sunshine Coast Highway a worthwhile road to travel.
If you're coming from Powell River
Board the ferry at Saltery Bay to Earls Cove at the north end of the Sunshine Coast. When you disembark follow Highway 1 south. Pass Ruby Lake Restaurant, The Pender Harbour Golf Course, Madiera Park,The Grasshopper Pub continuing to travel towards Secret Cove. Turn right at Mercer Road and drive about 2 km to the Secret Cove Landing sign and turn right, go down the hill to the stairs. Park on the right near the stairs. Walk up the stairs to the last condo, which is #401.
Check the ferry schedule!
It's always a good idea to check the Ferry Schedule carefully. Ferries to the Sunshine Coast do not run hourly like the Vancouver Island ferries. Our schedules change regularly, with the seasons. Summer is a busy time as many people travel to the Sunshine Coast for vacations. Check the traffic conditions on line or by phone and to avoid disappointment and delays you should arrive at the terminal early. Reservations can be made, but you must arrive at the terminal 30 minutes ahead of your scheduled sailing.
