What better way to end a day of your vacation getaway, knowing that a west coast forest filled with cedar, salal, pine and arbutus and the old growth fir of the Caren range is within your grasp. 
Maybe you'll decide to hike or mountain bike the Halfmoon Fir Trail which features a grove of ancient trees that lie among a huge second growth forest. At the centre is the Halfmoon Fir, which is the largest known tree on the Sunshine Coast. The lush terrain is inhabited by a variety of plant life, including ferns, mosses and mushrooms. The trail is wheelchair accessible. Access is minutes away from Secret Cove Hideaway 9km Hwy 101, just past Trout Lake from the north end.
Or you may want to see The Caren Range Old-Growth Forest which is documented as the oldest closed-canopy temperate rain forest in Canada. These mountains form the backbone of the Sechelt Peninsula. At an elevation ranging from 2,500 to 4,000 feet, the Caren Range is blessed with 2,000-year-old Yellow Cedar giants, pristine wetlands and numerous fish-bearing lakes. The forest contains a species mix of yellow cedar, mountain hemlock and balsam.
